Village of Oak Creek,  to the south of Sedona is more of a

neighborhood than a subur. Prices here are 10%-15% less and property taxes are slightly lower. Full-time residents with children are attracted to it because of its excellent school system. It is also the least-expensive area and has the city's top golf course community, Sedona Golf Resort, popular with vacation-home buyers. Those seeking a carefree lifestyle are attracted to Las Piedras, an upscale townhome community.


Big Park, the pioneers' name for the large open area that became the Village of Oak Creek in the early 1960s, is set among scenic red-rock buttes and canyons. The area known by locals as "the Village"  is a bedroom community for Sedona, Arizona. Tourism and service to retirees and second-home owners are the basis for the local economy.

Approachable from Verde Valley School Road, are Cathedral Rock, the most photographed red rock in Sedona and  Arizona's famous Oak Creek,  a popular destination during the hot summer months.  The Bell Rock scenic area (Bell Rock is perhaps the most famous red rock formation in Sedona) adjoins the north end of Village of Oak Creek. A Forest Service Visitor Center is located at the south end of the Village of Oak Creek..

The Village has a walkable main street with a small bank, supermarket,  restaurants, independent movie theater, playhouse and a discount factory outlet.  The Village is also a golf community,  home to 18-hole Sedona Golf Resort,    9-hole at Canyon Mesa Country Club and 18-hole Oak Creek Country Club.   Like Sedona it has great biking, hiking and horseback riding trails, and a fantastic spa (Hilton Spa).

Property values run between 5 and 10% less than in Sedona and sales tax is 3%  less. The area has a Sedona Zip Code 86351. Its populaton of  5,245 at the 2000 census is made up of young and older retirees and second-homes owners.
